How to use the dial-in option for a live Q&A

This article outlines how to use dial-in to do a live Q&A after the session in 4 easy steps.

Step 1 - Set up

  • Click on the broadcast link provided and login using your email address and password. A presentation window will open up where the pre-recorded presentation would be loaded and likely already playing.

  • Approx. 5 mins before the end of the presentation, click ‘mixing content’ and call the number you see on the pop out screen. Please dial in using a landline telephone rather than a headset connected to your laptop/pc. Using the latter may prevent your live stream from being heard.

  • Please ensure you have muted the speakers on your laptop or PC. This is very important and avoids an audio loop. You will also need to mute the sound notification in the questions box by clicking on the speak icon.

  • At this point viewers cannot hear you.

Step 2 - Go live

  • When you are ready to go live click the ‘Start Publishing’ button. After clicking ‘Start Publishing’ you must wait 10 seconds to allow the system to connect your audio to live and then you may speak and start your live Q&A. To confirm, your presentation should be made by talking into the telephone you dialled in with.

Step 3 - Answering questions

  • Questions will be posted in the chat board you will be able to see on screen. This is a public chat board so all viewers can see what is written here.

Step 4 - Ending the session

  • Once you have finished responding to questions, remain silent for 10 seconds and then click the Stop Publishing button to stop the live stream.

  • Once you have done this your live audio can no longer be heard by viewers.

  • You may then disconnect from the dial-in by hanging up your telephone and closing down your window.

FAQs

Q: Can I click ‘Start Publishing’ before the presentation ends?
A: No, the pre-recorded presentation will be interrupted immediately once you click ‘Start Publishing’ button and it will have to be reset by one of the admins.

Q: Can I use this option to do an introduction or answer some questions in the middle of the presentation?
A: No, this option is solely to be used once the presentation has finished broadcasting.

Q: I can only see United Kingdom and United States numbers, can we add a different country?
A: Currently only UK and US phone numbers are supported.
